FEBRUARY 2004 Well, we hope all those Dogfingers stocking stuffers you bought helped bring pleasure to your loved ones during the holiday season. If you aren't yet tired of throwing cash our way, why not check out our latest release, RE:Cooperation's "TransAtlantic Collaboration." The result of a five year trans-Atlantic collaboration between David Cooper Orton (UK) and James Sidlo (USA), this DogFingers/Uncle Buzz Records joint release is a journey into beautiful atmospheres and complex textures using software manipulation and guitar looping. Fans of Eno's ambirent works should take note. Meanwhile, Boxcar Satan is gearing up for a March Texas tour with like-minded noise units Gorch Fock, Oh! Beast and the Bontempi Brothers that will take their caravan to Houston, Austin and San Antonio. Pseudo Buddha is once again reconfiguring and will be playing shows around Texas this spring. Look for a slightly changed lineup, but once again expect musical advances. DECEMBER 2003 Happy holidays, folks! Hopefully you'll be thinking of us this season as you look for stocking stuffers for your friends who enjoy strange and creative music. Might we recommend one of our three brand new releases? Six-Fing Thing, the musical alter ego of San Antonio visual artist and Pseudo Buddha member James Cobb, has released two new CDs: "Self-Portrait as a Venerable Shrub" and "Our Children." "Self-Portrait" is a collection of epic, intricately-layered studio soundscapes, while "Our Children" is a live performance featuring James and Pseudo Buddha partner Bobdog at one of James' art openings in Cardiff, Wales. For those more interested in the rock end of the spectrum, Boxcar Satan's "Upstanding and Indigent" is the band's most ambitious collection yet, featuring 14 songs that span from noise to deep blues to post-punk to post-rock and back again. We're also celebrating the successful tours of two of our artists this fall: Boxcar Satan and Pseudo Buddha. The Boxcars completed another month-long national tour to support their new disk, and the Buddhas wrapped up a string of dates in California and Colorado. And keep your eye on the site too for some exciting releases due out this spring. MAY 2003 It's spring and Dogfingers is birthing a whole mess of new CDs. Well, two anyway. Pseudo Buddha's "3 Months in Fat City" live disk is out and provides a fine sampling of the band's current lineup. No overdubs, no studio gimmickery -- this is Pseudo Buddha thinking on its feet and rocking, ragaing and reinventing itself the way it does best. Pick it "Fat City" and give those ears a workout. Also available for your consumption is the long-awaited "Delta Masters," a compilation disk of bands putting their strange spins on classic Delta blues songs by the likes of Mississippi Fred McDowell, Robert Johnson and Charlie Patton. The stellar lineup includes DogFingers' own Boxcar Satan and Pseudo Buddha plus The Heroine Sheiks, Rev. Vince Anderson, Rube Waddell, Loraxx, The Crack Pipes, White Hassle, Double Clutch, Porch Ghouls, Memphis Playboys, Crab Lady, Viva Maxitone, and The Starkweathers. Not to be missed. Meanwhile, Boxcar Satan is back from an 11-day jaunt across the Rust Belt that was apparently well received. Keep an eye out for them in finer venues across the state, and expect them to be back in the studio this summer to work on their third full-length release. For its part, Pseudo Buddha has been traversing Texas to bring their music to some of the artier venues around the state. Now that the weather has warmed up, look out for them the first Friday of every month in San Antonio at their usual spot at Southtown Marketplace on South Alamo St. Gigs usually kick off around 8 p.m. Just follow the smell of incense and the comforting drone. We promise we'll do a better job of updating the news page. We'll have lots more to announce soon. |
